Around the same time last year, we did a story lamenting the fact that the concept-come-true Mi Mix won’t be coming to India.
MiSad, we wrote, the bezel-less phones won’t make it out of China
. Perhaps, the bosses at Xiaomi paid heed to our (and everyone’s) demands and gave in. Xiaomi’s Global Vice President and India’s Managing Director, Manu Kumar Jain announced the newly launched Mi Mix 2 will indeed land up in India.
That is huge!
Breaking news Mi Fans: Mi MIX 2 will be launching in India soon 🤘🤘🤘 RT if you are excited about this amazing news 😎… https://t.co/HAxlgslpdt

Throughout the livestream, fans were busy asking whether the phone will launch in India. We had the same question as well.
Turns out, Xiaomi listens to its fans. But in retrospect, it makes sense for Xiaomi to launch the phone in India. The Mi Mix is Xiaomi’s most prized possession. And India is its most prized market.
After the launch, Xiaomi’s Senior Vice President, Xiang Wang told dia, “The Mi Mix 2 we launched today will be in India. We love India. You’ll see the flagship product, but we have to take care of the masses. We want to bring more ecosystem product to the India market.”
Wang also pondered upon launching the Mi Notebook Pro in India. The laptop that the company launched today is very much a MacBook Pro competitor.
“We will do a study on the laptop. We want to offer the best we can. India is another country where we can leapfrog PC. We are looking on the right timing. We want to understand what kind of laptop Indian people are asking for. We want to go deep,” Wang told dia.
You read that right. Xiaomi will not only bring the Mi Mix 2 in India, but also some of its ecosystem products and perhaps the Mi Notebook Pro. Earlier this year,
broke the story of how Xiaomi, under Manu Kumar Jain, is trying to redesign the ecosystem products to tailor it to the Indian market. He cited the example of the smart water purifier that is a big hit in China. The water purifier doesn’t come with a water tank which, in a country like India where there is acute water shortage, won’t make sense.
Till now, Xiaomi was busy creating a fertile ground for the phone to launch. It became the number brand in terms of smartphone sales only courtesy the
Redmi Note 4
. Just a few weeks back, it launched its first phone with
stock Android in the Mi A1
Xiaomi even held back launching its
flagship Mi 6
. Was it to launch the Mi Mix? We’ll never know that for sure, but it did create a favourable vacuum to be filled by the Mi Mix 2.
Now the only question that remains is how much will the Mi Mix 2 cost in India? And when will it be available?
In case you missed it, the Mi Mix 2 features a bezel-less 5.99-inch full HD+ display powered by Qualcomm’s most powerful processor coupled with 6GB of RAM with storage variants going all the way up to 256GB. It is made out of a single block of ceramic with an aluminium frame curved on all sides, features the same camera as the Mi 6 – a 12-megapixel Sony IMX 386 sensor with 4-axis optical image stabilisation and 1.25um large pixels.
But more than that, the Mi Mix 2 has some futuristic tech underneath to work around the bezel-less display. It has cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustics that resonates the sound through the aluminium metal frame and delivers the audio through the screen. There is an ultrasonic proximity sensor as well. The front camera, incidentally, is at the bottom of the device.
